Gulfport’s fishing scene is on fire this summer! We’ve got some of the finest inshore, nearshore, and saltwater marsh fishing you can find, right here off the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Inshore Adventures

Right now, the inshore action is something else, with anglers pulling in big redfish and jack crevalle around the grass beds of Bayou Bernard and the Biloxi Marsh.

Tip: Live bait’s the way to go—it gets the big ones biting. Get ready for a real tussle when you hook one, and maybe you’ll be frying up a fresh catch for dinner.

Redfish are running about 20-24 inches most days, but don’t be surprised if you hook one a bit smaller or larger, especially around the deeper spots near Ship Island where they like to feed. The fish get pretty active in the summer, so it’s a great time to try your luck.

Shark Fishing

And if you’re up for a real challenge, the shark fishing’s been great. There’s nothing quite like seeing a big shark break the surface and then fighting to reel that monster in. Out near Cat Island, sharks can be especially active during the summer months.

Exploring Nearby Biloxi’s Waters

Don’t forget, we’re just a shrimp toss from Biloxi, another very popular fishing destination on the Gulf Coast. So if you’re looking to mix things up, you might want to think about taking a trip out to Louisiana’s coastal marsh.

The marshland stretches across miles of saltwater ecosystems, and it’s great for targeting redfish and speckled trout. But you might also tangle with monster black drum, flounder, triple tail, and others.

Now over in Biloxi, you can also find some excellent fishing spots like the Back Bay of Biloxi and over near Deer Island. These waters are packed with speckled trout and flounder, making for some fine fishing. It’s pretty common to land multiple species in a single trip. Plus, it’s only a quick hop from Gulfport, about a 15-minute drive, so you can easily enjoy the best of both cities.

Tip: Heads up—this spot’s a real honey hole for red snapper. Launch from here and you’re right in the thick of their territory. For our red snapper fishing adventures, we set off from a couple of sweet spots around Biloxi or Ocean Springs, MS.

Whether you’re launching from the Small Craft Harbor in Biloxi or cruising out from the Gulfport Municipal Marina, you’re in for some great fishing action this summer.
